The final steps for file handling when you have completed eXtyles operations will depend on the specific workflow of your organization. Typically, there are two common routes:
- Hand off of the Word file to a production group for use in a desktop publishing application (e.g., Adobe InDesign) or creation of a PDF directly from Microsoft Word. If your organization uses a workflow in which the Word document is directly used for another process, please review the section Post-Processing Cleanup. Post-Processing Cleanup removes some information added by eXtyles that is required for XML creation but that can intrude on other applications that may read Word files.
- Export of the Word file with eXtyles to NISO STS XML or another typesetting-specific format. In such a workflow, eXtyles is used to create a new file in a different format (typically XML). If your organization uses a workflow in which the Word document is exported to another format, please review the documentation on XML Export.
