Installing eXtyles
Installation Requirements
Build 5143 (December 19, 2022) and Higher
Microsoft Word for Windows: 2016, Microsoft (Office) 365*
Microsoft Windows: 10, 11
1024 × 768 screen resolution (minimum)
Intel Core i5-9 (9th Gen), Intel Xeon (2nd Gen), or equivalent or faster (we recommend systems less than four years old)
8 GB RAM minimum (we recommend 16 GB Ram, or twice the minimum Microsoft specification for any combination of Windows and Word)
1 GB free HD space to install
*Office must be installed locally on the machine on which you’re working. eXtyles can not be used with Word in a Web browser.
Build 5142 (December 18, 2022) and Lower
Microsoft Word (32-bit only) for Windows: 2010*, 2013**, 2016, Microsoft (Office) 365*** (32 bit only)

*Inera will end support for Office 2010 in June 2023. Microsoft discontinued support for Office 2010 in October 2020. Although we expect that eXtyles will continue to work in Word 2010, starting in June 2023 Inera will no longer provide technical support for eXtyles running in Word 2010.
**Inera will end support for Office 2013 in December 2023. Microsoft will discontinue support for Office 2013 in April 2023. Although eXtyles will continue to work in Word 2013, starting in December 2023 Inera will no longer provide technical support for eXtyles running in Word 2013.
***Office must be installed locally on the machine on which you’re working. eXtyles can not be used with Word in a Web browser.
Note also that you will need Internet access for certain eXtyles processes (e.g., PubMed/Crossref Reference Checking)

Installing eXtyles: Step-by-Step
Your organization may require that an IT professional install software on your machine. Refer to our Overview for IT Professionals for detailed information about eXtyles installation and technical requirements.
Be sure to log into your PC under an account with administrator privileges.
Quit Microsoft Word before following these steps.
1. Double-click the eXtyles installation file that you downloaded from the provided URL (this file will probably look something like eXtylesABC0000.exe; where ABC is an abbreviation of your organization’s name and 000 is the eXtyles build number).
2. Follow the step-by-step instructions provided within the InstallShield Wizard dialog.
You will be required to enter your eXtyles license key during the setup process. If you have a HASP-keyed version of eXtyles, enter the license number on the tag attached to the key; if you do not have a HASP-keyed version of eXtyles enter the key that was provided to you when you first received your eXtyles configuration. If you have not received this information from Inera, please contact extyles technical support.
3. If applicable, install any patch files according to the instructions provided by Inera (these vary depending on the customer and patch type).
4. Start Microsoft Word.
You should see the eXtyles tab added to the Word ribbon. If you do not see the eXtyles tab, please visit our FAQs or contact eXtyles technical support.
Once you have eXtyles installed you can test the installation with the following verification document. Simply download the Word document from this site and follow the instructions within.
Uninstalling eXtyles: Step-by-Step
Uninstall eXtyles using the Windows Control Panel. This will ensure that eXtyles is correctly and completely uninstalled from your computer prior to installing an update.
1. Open the Windows Control Panel by typing “Control Panel” in your Windows search bar
2. Select “Uninstall a program” from the Control Panel options
3. Select “eXtyles” from the list of installed programs
Note that if you are uninstalling eXtyles build 5143 or higher (from December 19, 2022, or later) there will be more than one eXtyles option in the list. Select only the “eXtyles” option to uninstall; do not select either the “eXtyles 32-bit” or “eXtyles 32-bit DLLs” or the “eXtyles 64-bit” or “eXtyles 64-bit DLLs” depending on your installation.
4. Click “Uninstall” and the InstallShield wizard will uninstall eXtyles
After successfully uninstalling eXtyles check your C:\Program Files (x86)\eXtyles directory and make sure that no files remain (delete any that do).
Then, we recommend that you reboot your computer before installing your eXtyles update or reinstalling eXtyles.
