Preformatted Text Style

The Preformatted Text style is typically used for computer code and markup, in which whitespace may have been used for alignment and should be preserved. This page describes how the style is used.

Preformatted Text

The Preformatted Text style is typically used for machine-related communication such as computer code and error messages, in which whitespace such as tabs, line feeds, and spaces should be preserved. It can also be used for poetry, where whitespace has been used for alignment of the text and must be preserved.

Paragraphs that are styled with Preformatted Text can be excluded from whitespace cleanup. They are also typically excluded from the majority of Auto-Redact rules.

Example

The following example demonstrates the use of the Preformatted Text paragraph style. Note that the tab characters are encoded in the output XML as - the Unicode representation of the tab character. This illustration is an excerpt from the sample document: Sample 1_Math-in-Word.docx
