Installation requirements

eXtyles is an advanced add-on to Microsoft Word that is simple to install. Before installing eXtyles, review the following software and hardware requirements and recommendations:

  • Microsoft Word for Windows (32-bit only): 2007, 2010, 2013, or 2016
  • Microsoft Windows (32- or 64-bit): 7, 8, 8.1, or 10
  • 1024 × 768 screen resolution (minimum)
  • 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 dual-core CPU equivalent or faster (recommended: systems less than four years old)
  • 8 GB RAM (minimum; we recommend twice the minimum Microsoft specification for any combination of Windows and Word)
  • 1 GB free HD space to install
  • Internet access for certain processes (e.g., PubMed/Crossref Reference Checking)

eXtyles supports 64-bit Windows, but 64-bit Microsoft Office does not support eXtyles. Learn more →

Installing eXtyles

To install eXtyles:

  1. If you are installing a keyed version of eXtyles, install the HASP drivers and hardware key by following the instructions in the next section, “Installing eXtyles with a Hardware Key.”
  2. Double-click the eXtyles installation file that you downloaded from the provided URL; this file will probably look something like eXtyles for Organization.exe.
The InstallShield Wizard will open and provide you with step-by-step instructions for entering your user information and installing the program.
  3. If necessary, install any patch files according to the instructions provided by Inera.
  4. Start Microsoft Word.
  5. If necessary, accept the security alert to allow macros signed by Inera Inc. to run. You will see the eXtyles menu added to the Word ribbon (or to the Word menus in earlier versions of Word). If you do not see the eXtyles menu/ribbon in Word after installation, please visit our FAQ or contact eXtyles technical support at eXtyles-support@inera.com.

Common installation issues and their solutions are documented in our eXtyles FAQ.

Installing eXtyles with a Hardware Key

Some customers must have a hardware key, in the form of a small USB drive, inserted into a USB drive on a computer before installing eXtyles. If this is the first time you are installing eXtyles on this specific computer, before you install eXtyles you must first install the HASP drivers for the key as follows:

  1. Download the HASP drivers from http://www.extyles.com/drivers/HASP_drivers_latest.zip.
  2. Attach your hardware key from Inera to a USB port on the PC.
  3. Unzip the downloaded drivers from step 1; inside the resulting folder Sentinel_HASP_Run-time_setup, double-click the file HASPUserSetup.exe.
  4. Reboot your PC (at this point, a red light should be glowing on the end of the hardware key).

You can then install eXtyles as described earlier in this section. When prompted for a serial number, enter the serial number attached to that key.
