Some article types, such as corrigenda, errata, and retractions, are related to another article. This page explains how the details of this related article can be set up in the Word file.


Related_Article

The Related_Article paragraph style is applied to a paragraph formatted like a bibliographic reference, giving the details of the article that is being corrected or retracted. Letters to the Editor also generally refer to another article, but they are often published together, and they are set up differently.

The @related-article-type attribute can be used to name the type or purpose of the relationship. Examples include: 

  • companion articles within the same issue (both sides of a controversy or the same subject for two audiences such as doctor and patient) 
  • a previous part of a multi-part article 
  • a news item in the same issue that summarizes the article 
  • a quiz on the material contained in the article 
  • the article on which this letter or editorial comments 
  • the article for which this article is a correction or addendum 

The output XML can represent the details of the related article in two ways: either as attributes of the <related-article> element (see the example below), or by including the full contents of the Related_Article paragraph inside the <related-article> element.
