Introduction

Welcome to the world of eXtyles!

The eXtyles family of editorial and XML solutions allows publishers to automate the most time-consuming aspects of document cleanup, formatting, and editing and to produce accurate XML with the click of a mouse. All eXtyles processes are run in Microsoft Word, providing a familiar, easy-to-use environment that requires no XML expertise.

This eXtyles STS Export User Documentation provides a comprehensive overview of eXtyles STS. Both novice and advanced users will find this documentation useful, as it serves as both a quick-start guide and as a detailed reference for each function in the eXtyles process.

This documentation is organized chronologically—that is, in the order each eXtyles  process should be run. The first section, “Getting Started,” includes instructions for installing eXtyles as well as reference information useful at every stage of eXtyles. The next section, “Document Preparation,” provides information on preparing your document prior to eXtyles processing in addition to information on Activation and Normalization. The third section, “Styling and Editing,” covers two processes that are central to all eXtyles users: Cleanup and Paragraph Styling. The fourth section, “Processing and Validation,” includes information on the Advanced Processes included in eXtyles STS used during URL, reference, and citation processing. The fifth section, “Final Steps,” covers Post-Processing Cleanup and the STS NISO 1.0 XML export filter. The final two sections cover additional workflow guidelines and eXtyles tools that can be used at any point during eXtyles processing.

This guide does not cover custom configuration and development topics. Users must first participate in eXtyles Administrator Training and/or eXtyles Developer Training before gaining access to the eXtyles Administrator Guide and the eXtyles Developer Guide. If you are interested in learning how to complete eXtyles customization in-house, please contact eXtyles-support@inera.com to learn more.
