Metadata Browse

Depending on your configuration of eXtyles, the Document Activation dialog may also include an option to Browse and import an XML metadata transmittal file. If you have this option, a Browse button is present on the Document Information dialog.

Image Added

When you click the Browse button, simply navigate to the correct XML metadata file on your machine, click OK, and then the relevant fields in the Document Information dialog will automatically populate.

Importantly, the fields that are populated with this metadata browse option may not include all of the available fields in the Document Information dialog. You should contact eXtyles support if your configuration of eXtyles includes this browse feature and you have questions about whether metadata is being correctly imported.

Also, some metadata may be imported during this process that is not displayed in either the Document Information dialog or the Word file. Some metadata can be carried through the eXtyles workflow “under the hood,” and can be included directly into the XML during eXtyles XML Export, thus ensuring that the information is included in your downstream publication workflow.

Metadata Import

eXtyles can also include Get Metadata. This feature sends support highly customized versions of the Document Information dialog that include a more automated Metadata Import option. This option can send a query to a specified metadata web service you’ve specified (for example(e.g., a submission system), connects connect to the relevant database, and imports import the correct metadata to your the Document Information Dialogdialog. eXtyles will then adds add this metadata to your the XML during export. Depending on your editorial style, eXtyles may also add it to the title page.

How to use

To search for document metadata, fill in the search fields and click Get Metadata

If your organization has this option you will see a Get Metadata button at the bottom of the Document Information dialog. After manually filling in a few required fields, simply click Get Metadata, and eXtyles will import the required metadata.
