Your eXtyles configuration may be set to update the journal database files manually, automatically, or never.

If your journal database tool is set to automatically update daily, weekly, or monthly, you can still update the database manually via the About box.

Note

If your configuration is set to never update the journal database, the option to update your journal database will not be available in the About box.

If you’ve run eXtyles Reference Processing more than a few times, you’ve probably seen a comment like this:

eXtyles does not recognize the journal XYZ (in reference "ABC"). If this is a valid journal title, please send this reference to journals@inera.com and we will add it to the eXtyles journal database.

To ensure that you see fewer and fewer of these as time goes on, you need to do 2 things:

Manual updates

To update your journal database manually, instead of or between automatic updates:

  1. Click the About button on the eXtyles ribbon to open the About eXtyles dialog.

  2. Click Update Journal Database to download and update your journal database files.

Note

You must have the Bibliographic Reference Processing module for this tool to be available. You must also be connected to the Internet to use this tool.

Automatic updates

Automatic updates are triggered by Bibliographic Reference Processing.

When you run Reference Processing, eXtyles checks

  1. whether automatic updates are enabled,

  2. how often updates are schedule (e.g., daily, weekly, monthly), and

  3. when the last update was loaded.

If last update is older than the most recent update prescribed by your schedule, eXtyles will automatically download the updated files before continuing to process your bibliographic references.

Tip

You can easily check the date of your last journal database update in the About eXtyles dialog regardless of your automatic update settings.
