Get to know the eXtyles tab!
eXtyles processing is performed in stages, each representing a step in the document’s life:
Activation/Metadata: The document acquires an “identity” in the form of metadata.
Document Preparation: The document is cleaned up, structured, and styled.
Edit: The document content is automatically edited and validated for consistency and accuracy.
Export/Cleanup: The processed document is cleaned up in preparation for production, and/or it is exported to XML.
The four stages above are used to organize the various eXtyles functions into groups on the eXtyles tab.
You may notice that when a document is first opened in Word, only the Document Audit and Activate and Normalize options are available. Once a document is successfully activated, all other eXtyles functions become available.
As a general rule, eXtyles functions are applied in the order that they appear on the tab menu, working from top to bottom and left to right.
Processes to follow in order
A typical document may go through the following processes in order:
Perform Document Check: Review your document for unusual formatting.
Document Audit: Font Audit: Automatically check the fonts used in the document for compatibility with eXtyles processing.
Activate and Normalize: Provide document metadata and automatically normalize the document.
Cleanup: Automatically remove unnecessary white space and formatting attributes, perform other global and context-specific cleanup on the document, and apply default paragraph styles.
Style Paragraphs: Apply custom paragraph styles to document content.
Auto-Redact: Automatically edit the document for consistency and correctness.
Advanced Processing: Automatically style and validate document content using a variety of custom processes.
Export or Post-Processing Cleanup: Automatically export your document to XML format, or cleanup your document in preparation for non-XML production.
Not every configuration of eXtyles includes Auto-Redact
Items on your Advanced Processing menu should be run in the order they appear, from top to bottom.
