The abstract is a summary of the contents of a paper, and is typically made available via search services to give potential readers a flavor of the content of the article.
eXtyles supports both Teasers (very short summaries, typically a single sentence) and longer Abstracts that may contain several paragraphs.
Abstract Head
Abstracts do not require titles in the XML according to the JATS DTD, but, if a title is provided, it should be styled as Abstract Head.
Abstract
Each paragraph of the body of the abstract should be styled as Abstract.
If the abstract contains headings (e.g. Introduction, Methods, Results, etc.), these should be run in to the text of the paragraph and distinguished by the use of bold face.
Teaser Head, Teaser
The Teaser Head and Teaser styles are used in the same way as Abstract_Head and Abstract.
Translated Abstracts
The Abstract Head (Translated) and Abstract (Translated) styles are used for the title and body paragraph(s) of a translated abstract.
The language of the translated abstract is taken from the Secondary Language supplied on the Document Information dialog.
See the Abstracts page in the JATS Export section for XML export examples of translated abstracts.
