XML Export and Cleanup

Final steps for file handling when you have completed eXtyles operations will depend on the specific workflow for the particular document. However, typically, National Park Service documents will proceed through the following workflow:

  • Export of the Word file with eXtyles to XML, which is then fed into an automated InDesign layout process. For this workflow, please review the section on XML Export.

Occasionally, documents may need to be printed to PDF directly from Word. In those cases, the following workflow may be used:

  • Import the Word file into a desktop publishing application (e.g., Adobe InDesign) or create a PDF directly from Word. For this workflow, please review the section on Post-Processing Cleanup. Post-Processing Cleanup removes some information added by eXtyles that is required for XML creation but that can intrude on other applications that may read Word files.
