Crossref Reference Linking and Correction

Crossref is an official DOI registration firm that functions as a cooperative cross-publisher collaboration to enable accurate and useful citation linking via DOIs (Digital Object Identifiers). A DOI is an identifier that is unique for each content item and that does not change with time.

Crossref Reference Linking and Correction performs the following functions:

  1. Cross-checks the qualifying references in the document’s reference list against metadata in the Crossref database and informs you of the number of references for which a match was made.

  2. Adds missing information to the reference; e.g., a journal page range or issue number.

  3. Adds warnings in the form of Word comments when discrepancies between the reference list and Crossref metadata are discovered.

  4. Adds the DOI as an active hyperlink to matched references.

To run Crossref Reference Checking on a document:

  1. Complete Bibliographic Reference processing, including the cleanup and reprocessing of all book and journal references that eXtyles did not correctly tag

  2. Select eXtyles > Advanced Processing > Crossref Reference Linking and Correction

This process should take approximately 30 seconds for 60 references.
