The Body Tab

The Body tab of the eXtyles JATS style palette lists paragraph styles applied to the main body of a publication, such as headings, regular body paragraphs, quotes and equations. Documentation for these styles is organized into the following sections:

Heading Styles

Heading styles are self-explanatory. Headings should always be correctly nested (i.e. never skip heading levels just to obtain a particular visual "look" in Word).

Regular Paragraph Styles

This page describes how to use the Paragraph, Post-Heading Paragraph and Paragraph Continued styles. Paragraph Continued is used when another document "object" is encountered, such as an equation, that should be included in the same paragraph in the XML, followed by the rest of the paragraph.

Block Quote Style

The Block Quote style is used for display quotes that form one or more entire paragraphs. They have special handling in the XML so that they can be rendered as distinct from regular body paragraphs.

Equation Style

This page describes how to use the Equation style. This style is used for display equations that form one or more entire paragraph. It can be used irrespective of whether the equation contains only keyboard text or has been produced using Microsoft Equation 3.0, MathType or the Microsoft Equation Builder.

Poetry & Preformatted Text Styles

This page describes how to use the Poetry style. eXtyles JATS can automatically separate the poem into separate stanzas in the XML.

The Preformatted Text style is typically used for computer code and markup, in which whitespace may have been used for alignment and should be preserved.

Footnote Style

eXtyles JATS can support "live" Word footnotes and endnotes throughout eXtyles processing. However, it is also possible to represent footnotes as regular text paragraphs. This page describes how the Footnote style is used.

  • Continued List Items
